I picked up an orchid plant over the weekend...

macro is tough. the closer you get, the thinner the DOF becomes. what f stop are you shooting at? are you using flash?

f/8.0...and used a flash on all three. so crisp in some places...any suggestions?

f8 is ok, maybe try f11 but no higher its crisp in some areas because thats how big the DOF is when you are that close. the Orchid is too big to have the entire flower in focus. unless you master focus staking, but that is a whole new topic

I'll work on mastering focus stacking...but for now..here's a couple at f/11

all of these shots are very good and the colors are fantastic, orchids are just not ideal macro candidates. try shooting these from a distance with that lens. Get the entire flower in the frame and you'll get a nice blurred out background.
